Since I had the plan figured out, I have since got all items at my house. I have everything to begin the different crafts and ideas now. As far as progress I will be able to start the project right when school ends.

We only have 6 Friday's left in class for Genius Hour. In this time I am accomplishing finishing all of the planning I need to do so that I will be able to quickly begin this in the summer. With this I won't have to worry to plan anything in Summer. I have got most materials and items ready as well as the plan.
I read the article "After School Programs Foster STEM Skills." In this article it talks about how after school activities and programs can help students in the 4 aspects of STEM. Students feel less pressured when doing these after school things because it is not graded and you can learn in your own type of way.
STEM is very important in learning. You need to do problem solving, and use a lot of thinking to get through the problems. Doing this ties in things that people want to be apart of. If children are having fun learning they are more likely to work harder. After school activities increase the chance for children to be able to get chances at trying new things. In overview of the idea of after school learning, kids are more likely to succeed in it because they do not feel pressured about the grade they will receive. They have the choice in doing what they want to do rather than being told what they can do. This helps kids express themselves. Being a genius has to do with both inheritance, and your surroundings. Geniuses are those who "have the intelligence, enthusiasm, and endurance to acquire the needed expertise in a broadly valued domain of achievement" and who then make contributions to that field that are considered by peers to be both "original and highly exemplary." So Simonton falls back on his "intelligence, enthusiasm, and endurance" formulation, rather than IQ tests and other tests. Cloud believes that being a genius is made up of more than just one factor but instead many contributing factors.
This shows that it is hard to be considered a genius. There are many factors that can affect you in being a genius. It applies to me academically because being a genius is not as simple as some people make it seem. To be considered a genius it is more than just being "smart." Mr. Cowen had made a 3D printer for his genius hour project. He used this printer to help make things that would be very expensive, or things that could help people. He used a slideshow and other elements to present this. When doing this, it was very effective because of how he presented his material. The more information used to present as well as description makes his presentation much better. After watching this I realize that the way you present your information does a lot to enhance it, and makes people think more highly of your idea.
When many people think of the word genius they categorize it completely into your intelligence level. That is not the case always, the author of this story says that being creative is used when talking about the word genius. Some strategies that shared genius's use are looking at problems in different ways, producing ideas, and making thoughts visible. This information from this makes me want to be more creative when doing my project, instead of just categorizing this with intelligence.
Many kids don't like to go to school. Genius hour has made kids think differently about going to school, they enjoy it. Kids are saddened when they have to miss school because of snow, or other circumstances. Genius Hour gives kids the ability to express themselves instead of following the daily routine of work, work, work. This is more than just a fun project, it helps kids learn. Kids are learning about other things and getting to have fun while doing it. Parents like the idea of this project because they're seeing how much there children enjoy it. Some kids even say that they are getting a higher self esteem by doing these. When parents, kids, and teachers all enjoy a project it is a positive thing to be seen at school. It teaches you that it is okay to not succeed from the start, you can always try again and hope things work out better this time. Genius hour is making a positive impact to many schools and communities.
Taking this all into consideration, approaching my genius hour I can see that it really does have an impact and when I go to do my project I will know that it is something to look forward to. Although i have not started as much as I would like to so far, seeing all of these posts from other students who enjoy this makes me excited to get further into it. I also like to see that even if my project does not work out that I can try again and not just be let down by the first try. My genius hour project is going to do deal with cancer awareness. I want to make a difference and have many people show an impact on the awareness. First, I plan to raise money to get a start on the different projects I am going to make. I plan to make several different things. I want to make bracelets, key chains or another type of accessory. This way I will be able to raise money for the cancer closet while also having these accessories be seen by others. After I raise the money I am going to start to make these accessories and advertise them over various social media websites. Hopefully people will begin to buy these and as they are seen over the community more people will start to see them and buy them. Once I am done with the projects I will take all money that I raise after materials and donate it ALL to the local cancer closet.
